Originated from my collection 'Noctiluca' (2008-present)
The noctiluca collection has been developed from the magical and intense sensory experience one encounters while snorkelling in the tropical seas.
In daytime, the colours of the coral and the nibbling on your skin by little fish touch your senses. During the night every move you make while swimming seems to be illuminated by the sea by the so-called sea-sparkles ‘Noctiluca’. These little sea algae react to every touch by emitting light, like fireflies. Little lights in the dark.
What I think is very beautiful about these illuminating sea algaes is that they illuminate just for their self-defense mechanism. There is a very beautiful symbolism in there. Using or making or looking at the illuminating things in life for coping with the dark.
And, what this ‘illuminating’ means for this little creature - just simple self-defense - can bring us human beings such a magical experience.
