Batsenmeubel (Spade Furniture)

The Batsenmeubel (or in English Spade Furniture) was part of my graduation collection for the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague in 2009.
The spades have the same contours as the human posterior. By placing these in an innovative fashion on a support structure, they take on a new use: a seat.
The Batsenmeubel on the picture is the standard type: type 1.
It’s also possible to order a more sustainable type. Through a special
powdercoating and/or chroming of the support structure, the Batsenmeubel is more resistant against erosion. These types (2 & 3) have different prices:
Type 1: Standard Batsenmeubel
-8 seats
-Varnished
-Spades in color of your choice
-Support structure: steel (color: silver)
Price: € 4000 excl.
It’s also possible to variate in the number of seats:
